BUCKLING OF DOUBLY CURVED PLATES

With developments in computing power being what they are, structural analysis using finite-element modeling (FEM) is becoming ever more versatile. The complete structure of entire vessels is being evaluated in FEM, under complex loading conditions. As such, FEM has become an essential tool for the structural design of ships and naval structures. At DECK Maritime, we believe in pushing this type analysis to its limits. With this in mind, we have performed studies in which FEM is applied to diverse problems, such as simulating earthquake damages in beams or explosion loads on structures. In addition, extensive investigation has been done towards the buckling of doubly curved plates for Arnhem CS, from which the obtained knowledge has been applied to subsequent projects.
