The Noord-Nederland is Rederij Doeksen’s cargo ferry from the port of Harlingen to the islands Terschelling and Vlieland in the Wadden Sea. As a ro-ro catamaran, she is uniquely suited for this task. Nonetheless, it was decided to increase the capacity of the vessel by adding a 20-m-section to the midship of the vessel. Doing so would increase the payload by nearly 50%.

DEKC Maritime was involved with the conversion of the Noord-Nederland from an early stage, performing a number of feasibility studies on different configurations for increasing the vessel’s capacity. Once the final conversion was decided on, the stability and strength of the lengthened vessel was investigated, as well as the new power requirements.
